We the undersigned petition the County Council to call upon Hertfordshire County Councillors, the Development Control Committee and the Officers of the Planning Department to ensure that the groundwater under Ellenbrook Fields is not put at any risk of contamination and to that end obtain a cast iron guarantee from the developers, The Environment Agency and Affinity Water that neither now or in the future is there any risk to this source water from the proposed quarrying activity.
In the absence of such a guarantee you should dismiss this application as we believe that the risk associated with digging the lower mineral horizon so close to bromide/bromate pollution is completely unknown and therefore is too high a risk to take.
Should the bromate/bromide pollution get drawn onto either the application or the actual dig site it will take decades if not centuries to remove, as can be evidenced by the current remediation plan.
This is submitted to obtain sufficient signatures to allow the
petition to be presented to the Development Control Committee who
are hearing the application to quarry the Old Hatfield Aerodrome
now known as Ellenbrook Fields, Application No 5/0394-16
