Hertfordshire County Council acknowledges that there are strong feelings about the future of the former Radlett Airfield site in Park Street. The County Council’s policy, established back in 2016, is that we have a strong preference not to see a change in the current green belt status of this land or to dispose of it.
However, we recognise that there may be circumstances in which the County Council could be legally obliged to dispose of the land. For that reason we welcomed suggestions for alternative uses for the site which would secure value at least equivalent to the value of the land if used for a Strategic Rail Freight Interchange
If planning permission was to be granted for the hospital proposal and the County Council was to dispose of the site, it could be considered along with any other proposals which also have planning permission.
However, we understand that in June 2017 the Herts Valleys CCG board approved West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust’s strategic outline case (SOC) and financial case for redevelopment of existing hospital sites at Watford General Hospital and St Albans City Hospital. The SOC is currently with NHS regulators for consideration.
On this basis, the West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust would
not need this site and your request for Hertfordshire County
Council to offer the site to the Trust would not be appropriate, as
there is currently no planning basis for it.
